[WWN] Ranking High In Google Places

We are subscribed to so many lists, that it's hard to keep track of all of the stuff flying around out there -- but don't worry, we wade through all the marketing junk on your behalf.

Suddenly, everyone is talking about Google Places -- and for good reason.

It's actually really important that you claim your Google places listing online, because those listings get seen on PAGE ONE, and are clicked a bunch.

But here's a BIG mistake you might be making:

Claiming your listing too quickly.

Why is that? Simple -- getting ranked high in the Google Places algorithm requires that you have a bunch of listings in OTHER local directories FIRST.

(By the way, for Suite and or Web/SEO clients -- we're rolling all of this out for you on your behalf over the next month, so you don't actually need to mess with it.)

Let me share with you some of the research being done by our SEO Specialist, Becky Hartke...

To have your listings show up on the first three pages of Google, here are the directories which you should focus on, sorted by which service you want to most advertise...

For those looking for "Tax Services":

1. Yelp 5
2. Bookkeeping Help 5
3. Yellowpages 4
4. Yahoo! Local 4
5. Dex Knows 4
6. Citysearch 3
7. Merchant Circle 2
8. Manta 1
9. Ingenio 1
10. Craigslist 1
11. Guru.com 1

(the number to the right equates to the "Page Rank", basically the authority score which Google assigns different sites.)

For those looking for "Accountant":

1. Superpages 5
2. Yelp 4
3. Bookkeeping Help 3
4. CPA finder 3
5. Angies List 3
6. Yellowpages 2

So grab those listings BECORE you get your Google Places listing, and your Places listing will be MUCH higher on the page.
